Navy Art

cold art

Artist Arthur Beaumont (1890-1968) traveled around the world painting for the Navy. Long before NSF came up with the Artists and Writers Program, Arthur made 2 trips to the ice in 1959-60 and 1960-61, the second trip included a scheduled 6-hour visit to Pole which of course got extended to a week due to bad weather. So he had time to paint this watercolor of the station, outdoors...

The main web site with which outlines Arthur's life, times, and other work is here; the frame with this painting is here.

Painting reproduced here by permission of Arthur's grandson Beau
