This is the Duke Energy North America (DENA) 1240 MW combined cycle power plant in Hanging Rock, Ohio, near Ashland, KY and Huntington WV. This aerial photograph of the jobsite was taken in late November 2002. This is a "4 on 2" plant, essentially 2 completely separate power plants each with two Aalborg heat recovery steam generators (HRSG's, or boilers) to the left of the buildings. Inside each building are two GE gas turbine generators which supply waste heat to the HRSG's. The generated steam drives a GE steam turbine in each building. "First fire" or initial steam generation, on Power Block 1 (foreground) was achieved in March 2003, and commercial operation was achieved ahead of schedule in May 2003. |
