Above, the power block of Dominion's 580 MW combined cycle power plant in New Canton (Buckingham County), Virginia, located just south of the James River and about 60 miles west of Richmond. This aerial photograph of the jobsite was taken in September 2010, shortly before hydrotest. The two Nooter/Eriksen heat recovery steam generators (my main part of this project) are in the center of the picture; to their right is the steam turbine building, and to their left is the gas turbine inlet chiller building and associated thermal energy storage (TES) tank. Final project completion was in the summer of 2011, although commercial power production began months earlier (Dominion's project page with video links). |
