Old South Pole Photos[note...this operation occurred over several seasons...during an initial investigation in the summer of 1995-96 the station was inspected and preliminary data collected. ASA submitted a proposal to NSF in September 1996 which included a preliminary inventory of other items for which recovery might be appropriate. Based on this proposal, a more detailed inspection was conducted in January 1997, as documented here by lead plumber Scott Smith. The actual fuel recovery occurred the following 1997-98 season, per the photos on this page. A second effort to recover timbers and a few other items was conducted in December 1998...Bill] Photos taken on 19 December 1997 Fuel Recovery- 600 WEATHER BALLOONS RECOVERED - APPROX. 900 POUNDS OF HAZARDOUS WASTE RECOVERED, OVER 600 POUNDS CAN BE USED ON STATION - USABLE EQUIPMENT RECOVERED - 76 PHOTO'S TAKEN WARMING UP ON SURFACE.
