Support
Forces Antarctica (SFA) - A new name reflecting that Operation DEEP FREEZE
truly is a joint military operation including the Air Force, Air National
Guard, Air Force Reserve Command, Navy and Coast Guard, under the operational
command and control of United States Transportation Command (USTC). SFA is the command staff responsible for all Department
of Defense and Coast Guard logistics and support for the United States
Antarctic Program. |

SFA Staff:
COMMANDER (x2435) - Colonel Tye Beasley (Biography)
Command and control authority for Department of Defense and US Coast Guard operations
within the USAP.
SUPPORT OFFICE (x2508) – Major Dorine LeBlanc
Provides overall support to the units by coordinating with various community
support organizations.
SAFETY OFFICE (x2430) - MSgt Richard Grimwood
Monitors military personnel work facilities, dorms, and flight line operations
to ensure safety and handle potential mishaps.
SERVICES OFFICE (x2048) – SMSgt
Steve Hanneman
Arranges billeting for military personnel while
serving as a liaison for the dorms and producing the housing phone listing.
Also serves as the MWR representative for the military.
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (x2435) – SMSgt Tuck Harman
Manages SFA office administrative activities and IT hardware and network issues
and requirements for the military.
SHIP OPERATIONS – US COAST GUARD (x2249) - LT Commander April Brown
Coordinates Coast Guard science support and activities.

- 139th Expeditionary Aerospace Squadron (139th EAS) from Stratton ANGB, New
York- LC-130 Hercules.
- 304th Expeditionary Aerospace Squadron (304th EAS) from March Air Reserve
Base in California - C-141 Star lifter and McChord Air Force Base in Washington
- C-17 Globemaster III.
- US Coast Guard Icebreakers Polar Sea and Polar Star.
- Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) from Charleston SC –
Aviation Technical Services.
- Navy Cargo Handling and Port Group (NAVCHAPS) - Cargo ship offloading.
