Duke Energy Hinds

heat recovery steam generators

This is the Duke Energy Hinds construction site in Jackson, MS., where a 500 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant is being assembled. This view is of two heat recovery steam generators, or "HRSG's" (boilers) which will use the exhaust gas from the two gas turbines to generate steam which will drive a steam turbine generator. You are looking at the outlet end of the HRSG's where the stacks are being fabricated. Here you see the high pressure steam drum being lifted atop the first unit. The preinstalled riser tubes attached to the drum will be welded to the finned boiler tubes inside of the unit. Between September 2000 and January 2001 I was one of two superintendents watching the subcontractor erect and assemble these HRSG's. Hydrotests were completed in December 2000.
